In the 60's, a common "tourist trap" to visit was the Lost World in Scott's Valley, near Santa Cruz. William takes son and daughter to see steel dinosaurs and unusual trees.
William Leonard Jolitz and his 12year old son, William Frederick Jolitz, made a telescope together.
First they ground and polished a 6-in parabolic mirror. Then, they built a 4 ft optical tube assembly with mirror cells. William Leonard Jolitz designed and fabricated a wooden equatorial mount. They mated the two, and soon that night saw the moon and planets with first light!
